Well, my first week of school is over, and I’ve started the second week.  My classes weren’t on the campus I thought they were on, so I ended up lost and trying to find my way through a labyrinth of buildings on the Dragvoll campus my first day of classes. The buildings at Dragvoll are a bit newer than the ones in Gløshaugen, and the campus is also a bit smaller.

Big wall of ads, including one for a concert I’m going to on Friday:

I spend a lot less time at school than I did in High school. I usually have about 3 hours of classes per day, but I get several hours worth of homework per night. Class sizes are also much smaller than in High School, I only have 15 people in my class, compared to the 25 to 30 in my High School classes.

Here are some of my books (I haven’t bought the other three sets yet) ans some of my other supplies.

Well, thats all for now, I will make another post on Friday night or Saturday morning after the Datarock concert.

Orientation Week

This week is orientation week, Monday was a day solely for the international students. We were greeted by the Dean of the university who gave a brief history of the school. After that, international students from last year talked to us about getting used to Norwegian society and culture. Unfortunately, the Belgian had such a thick accent that I could barely understand him, and didn’t get much from him. The girl , who was from India, was much easier to understand and I got a lot more information from her.

Tuesday was the matriculation ceremony at the school. They set up a huge stage and had bands playing, people giving speeches, and tons of other things going on.

Today has been a cold, rainy day. Since there isn’t much to do outside, I have been playing video games with a good friend of mine named Forrest.

Here is the Starcraft 2 loading screen as Forrest and I get ready to play:

EDIT* I didn’t do a proper screen cap because i wanted to show friends in the US my new  TV/ Monitor as well.

Something thats been difficult for me to get used to here is the Metric system. It really gets to be a problem when asking someone for directions, and they tell you a distance in meters to walk before turning onto a different street or reaching your destination. Temperature hasn’t been as bad to get used to, I switched my thermometer, and desktop weather gadget to Celsius to force myself to get used to it. Also, all time here is in a 24 hour format, this includes my class schedule, opening times for businesses, everything. This wasn’t nearly as difficult to get used to as using meters or temperatures in Celsius.

Well, I’m going out with some friends tonight and need to get ready, more later this week!

Moved in!

This is a repost of the previous article, I had some server issues and now have to rewrite this post. (Takk for din hjelp Steffe :D )

Well, I’ve moved into my dorm! Overall, its very nice. It was recently renovated so everything is brand new in it.

Here are some pictures of my dorm:

Here i am on my computer, my dad took this from upstairs.

The city itself is also very nice. We flew into Trondheim airport after a very long, multi stop trip. The airport itself is in a county north of Trondheim called Nord – Trondelag in the city Værnes (Trondheim is in Sør – Trondelag). Værnes itself sits right next door to Hell, which my dad and I made sure to get a picture of.

This is Steinvikholm Castle, located in Stjørdal and built in 1532 for the Archbishop Olav Engelbrektsson.

My Dad and I have also been to the main campus (There are four campuses,The main campus Gløshaugen, Dragvoll, Øya, and Tyholt) and looked around it. The main building sits at the North end of the campus, and was built when the University was last reestablished in 1910 (The Original university was founded in 1760, and was called Norwegian Institute of Technology instead of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology) As you walk along the campus, the buildings grow more and more modern showing how the campus has been expanded over the years.

This is the main building of Gløshaugen from across the river Nidelva.

Well, thats all for now. I will continue to write more as I head into orientation week, and eventually start classes.
